When you walk through a storm…
In case you didn’t know, those are the opening lines to the famed Liverpool FC anthem: You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Seems fitting – it’s been a wild couple of weeks out there.
Between the weather and the recession talk, it’s easy to get pulled into reactive mode – fixing leaks (literal or financial), chasing fires, and running low on energy and clarity.
This fortnight, my focus has been on taking back some semblance of control:
- How my biggest business shift started with a collapse (and a wake-up call)
- Why just working harder won’t get you the freedom you’re after
- And when to stop overthinking small spends and just back yourself
Also, if you’re feeling stuck or stretched thin, I’ve added a new tool:
The Bottleneck Scorecard.
It’s a quick quiz to help you see if you’ve become the bottleneck – and what to do about it.
Takes 90 seconds. Might shine a light on where to focus next.
Take care, stay dry, and stay focused.
And remember: YNWA.
Cheers,
Jon Randles

Most business owners don’t realise they’ve become the bottleneck… until they’re overwhelmed, disconnected from their team, and quietly resenting the business they built.
My Tools Are a Spotlight and a Mirror
What does it really take to grow a business from scratch—and keep going when things start to unravel?
This shares the unfiltered story of juggling a full-time job while launching a side hustle, collapsing from burnout, and facing $140,000 in overdraft, all before finally turning the corner. After a panic attack that mimicked a heart attack, tough financial decisions, and the help of a business coach who brought clarity and accountability, everything began to shift. By stepping back from the daily grind and focusing on working on the business instead of in it, the transformation became real—eventually turning deep debt into six figures in the bank and a thriving enterprise. Work Smarter, Not Just Harder
When I started my first business, I couldn’t believe how hard I worked. Way more than as an employee (sorry Mark Hill-Rennie).
Late nights. Early mornings. Squeezing every drop of energy out of the day. And I was all over it. For years. More work = more success, right? Turns out… not quite. It took me more years (and a few pretty rough wake-up calls) to figure out that… Read More
You Can’t Save Your Way to Success
If it’s 3 figures and it might help – just do it. I’ve had this conversation a few times this week. Too many business owners get hung up on small spends. A book, a tool, a short course, some advice – look, if it’s under $1K and there’s a chance it could move you forward… get on with it. If three figures is enough to derail your cashflow, pause and ask: “Am I doing the right things?” Chances are you need a coach, an advisor, or a better plan more than you need to… Read More
