Cut the Noise. Sharpen the Message.
The below posts feel like a back-to-basics reminder.
Because sales does fix everything… but only if your margins, productivity, and marketing are solid first. (I learnt that the hard way – 7 figures in revenue, negative profit. Ouch.)
At the Building Better Businesses info evening, we proved that clarity beats noise. In a two minutes exercise, our audience turned vague ideas to sharper offers. Not perfect – but came up with a few marketing nuggets worth polishing.
And that’s the point: it doesn’t take more hustle, it takes better focus.
And then there’s the Grasshopper. He sang through summer, hoping winter would sort itself out. Spoiler: it didn’t – and he dies… 😈 On the other hand, his friends the ants weren’t just busy – they had a plan.
Inside this newsletter:
- 💥 Why “Sales Fixes Everything” is only true in the right order.
- 🎯 How sharper marketing = better clients and better margins.
- 🐜 And a 2,500-year-old story that’s still the best argument for a 90-day plan.
If you’re feeling like you’re carrying a bit too much, maybe the question isn’t “work harder” but “what’s the right order for me right now?”
As always, flick me a reply and let me know what lands.
Cheers,
Jon Randles

Only if the other foundations are in place.
In 2018, I focused on sales and we cracked a healthy 7-figure revenue. Yay.
Net profit? Negative. Boo.
How the f&$@ does that happen?
Because Sales is great to focus the mind, and we all want more revenue… Read More
Build Better: Clients, Message, Proof
Many people in the construction industry I’ve spoken to see marketing as a cost. (That’s if they’re even doing it) Something you throw money at, cross your fingers, and hope it brings in a job.
But here’s what they’re missing: successful marketing isn’t about noise. It’s about clarity. At the Building Better Businesses info evening last week at the High Performer Building, we ran a quick 2-minute exercise… Read More
The Ant & the Grasshopper (for business owners)
All summer, the grasshopper sings and cruises. The ants work away, keeping a steady rhythm. They do a morning load, an afternoon load, taking notes on what’s stocked and what they’ll need when winter comes. o drama. Just a quiet plan and daily action.
Winter arrives. The grasshopper’s cupboard is bare and the wind bites. “This isn’t fair! I don’t like the cold!” He knocks at the anthill, hungry, cold, and desperate. The ants keep working. Their storerooms are full. Their list is ticked off… Read More
