I think we’ve been doing this wrong

Let me start with a question.

What if doing less was actually the secret to getting more done?

Most business owners I meet aren’t short of effort. They’re short of focus. The days are full. Opportunities keep appearing. The team needs attention. The to-do list grows faster than things get done.

So the natural reaction is to try and ‘do more’. And how does that turn out?

Overworked, over tired, and often still not getting the traction we need to kick the goals we want to be kicking…

You see, the real progress comes from subtraction.

That’s the thread through this fortnight’s posts:

  • Strengthening Team Morale – simple ways to support your team so you’re not carrying everything yourself.
  • The Power of a 90-Day Plan – using a clear goal to filter opportunities and say no to the things that don’t move the needle.
  • A Better Map Beats a Harder Push – a reminder that sometimes the problem isn’t effort… it’s direction.

If that question hit home, you might enjoy the 90-Day Planning Session I’m running on the 25th.

It’s designed to help you step out of the noise, decide what actually matters for the next 90 Days, and walk away with a clear plan – by removing things rather than adding more.

You can see the details here.

Sometimes the fastest way forward is simply doing less of the wrong things.

Cheers,

Jon

Strengthening Team Morale and Motivation

Strong teams do better work, and a lot of that starts with how valued people feel.

In this video, I share a simple approach to lifting team morale through everyday recognition, low-cost team activities, peer-to-peer encouragement, mentoring, and opportunities to upskill. These small, consistent actions can have a big impact on motivation, productivity, and the quality of work your team delivers.

The Power of a 90-Day Plan

Too many opportunities can be just as dangerous as too few.
I was helping a client recently who had a lot happening in the business. He was busy, opportunities were coming in, and he was not sure what to prioritise.

So we used a simple filter.

We already knew his goal for the next 90 days because we had established it in our planning session. Then we looked at each opportunity and I asked:
“will this move you towards it?”

That changed everything… Read More

A Better Map Beats a Harder Push

Most business owners I meet feel like they are in a race they don’t remember entering.
They’re busy. They’re “doing.” They’re pushing harder every day.
But they’ve stopped enjoying the journey.

I recently shared a story about asking a stranger to watch my onion while I went to the bathroom.
It was a bit of fun. Sharpening my soft skills.

I’d finished a task. I was rewarding myself with a beer and some human connection.
I was choosing to enjoy the moment… Read More
